Filipino Canadian artist Bert Monterona brings a source of pride to the Filipino community in greater Vancouver area.
His design for a 2026 commemorative coin as part of celebrating Canada's Diversity series highlighting Filipino-Canadian heritage won approval from the Royal Canadian Mint. The design reflects the 'bayanihan' spirit of collective care and connection that continues to define how the community enriches Canada's multicultural story.
Vancouver-based Bert is actively involved as an educator, cultural worker, and artist working in a wide variety of practices, including design, illustration, painting, murals, sculpture and installations.
Aside from his studio painting activities for galleries and art collectors, he is also active in social development advocacy work for non-governmental organizations and institutions by giving arts and cultural services for their education and information programs and campaigns. He is the founder and main visual arts facilitator of the Philippine Artists Network for Community Integrative Transformation (PANCIT).
The Filipino Seniors Club (FSCBC) gratefully welcomes Bert as an active member, always finding ways to improve the club's service to the community. In particular, he personally delivers food hampers to a church premises to support families experiencing food insecurity.
